Spiritual Colors
'Abdu'l-Bahá also wrote the following:
Love is heaven’s kindly light…[1]
This implies that love in the spiritual world is what light is in the material world. Therefore, studying light can teach us about love. There is a spectrum of colors of light, and so probably there is a spectrum of love. Love can range from being strong and deep to being kind and lofty, so it makes sense for it to be on a spectrum like light. In a pilgrim’s note, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá described how the main colors correspond to spiritual attributes:
Mrs Parsons had a red shawl and one day she asked the Master the significance of the colour. He replied that red expressed activity, but if taken to extremes could stimulate war. Of the other colours, ‘Abdu’l-Bahá said that green expressed joy, yellow was indicative of love, blue promoted thought...[2]
These spiritual attributes can all describe the character of love, since love can be active, joyful or thoughtful.
