In the English language the word inspiration describes both a) the material process of breathing in to oxygenate the blood and b) the spiritual process of receiving bounties from the Holy Spirit, because the material process represents the spiritual process. The air represents God in the next world, and the oxygen represents the Holy Spirit.

The heart is the spiritual centre of the body. In the higher worlds, we think with our heart. In the Writings, the heart is referred to as a garden (3rd world) and a city (4th world). If it is a garden, then the lungs are a temple and the rest of the body is a city. If the heart is a city then the lungs are the countryside and the rest of the body is the rest of the world.

The heart in the human body is the meeting point of worship and service. Our blood in a way represents our love. Worship is symbolised by the blood flowing to the lungs, represented by a temple in the 3rd world. Here the oxygenation of the blood represents receiving inspiration from worship. Service is symbolised by the blood flowing around the body, represented by a city or town in the third world since this is where we often serve.

Red blood symbolises the active (see spiritual colors) state of having received inspiration from worship and not yet having served, and blue blood symbolises the thoughtful state of having expended energy serving and not yet having worshipped.

In the English language the word inspiration describes both a) the material process of breathing in to oxygenate the blood and b) the spiritual process of receiving bounties from the Holy Spirit, because the material process represents the spiritual process. The air represents God in the next world, and the oxygen represents the Holy Spirit.
